Betting Strategies

When looking to win money betting at the horse races there are a number of tactics and strategies you can follow:

  • Follow the race favourite
  • Follow the leading jockey
  • Follow the leading trainer
  • Follow recent form
  • Lay against low value favourites
  • etc etc ad infimitum

racehorse IThis page hopes to list the various systems there are and, over time, test which ones work the best.  In fact, when following betting systems it is wise to treat horse racing systems like trading on the stock market and keep a portfolio of diverse systems.  Following a few proven systems will iron out any fluctuations.

Firstly, the most important system of all – DON’T GAMBLE MORE THAN YOU CAN AFFORD TO LOSE!!!!  Seriously, though a lot of very intelligent people have got themselves into a lot of trouble with the “just one more bet will win back my losses” mentality.  Set a limit and walk away when you reach it.

Ok so the million dollar question – which betting strategy is the most profitable of all?   Well this is probably not what you want to hear but the most profitable strategy is DON’T BET!!!  Seriously have you ever seen a poor bookie?  Ok you definitely don’t want to hear that the most profitable horse racing system is to walk away from the bookie!! Otherwise you wouldn’t be on this site yeah?  Ok so go  back a little.  “…there’s no such thing as a poor bookie…..” hmmm that means that laying bets is the most profitable betting system…… no not quite that simple either.  Below is a list and critique of many of the better known systems.  I will be adding more over time and, if you have anything to add be it a new system or an experience of one of the ones on hear please let me know.
